5.7 How we may use your data for research

If you use the OKKO Health App, we may use your data for research. We are committed to working towards identifying any progression in eye disease as early as we can, so this research may, for example, allow us to better understand your eye condition, or to understand how we can make our products more suitable for people with your eye condition. For clinical trial participants, this may extend to research outside of your clinical trial.

The data that we use for research can include any information that we collect during the course of your involvement, as described in previous sections of the Privacy Notice. Before we carry out research, we remove any details that could identify you. As the data is anonymised, it does not qualify as personal data and is not subject to restrictions on processing as per the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). However, we still commit to transparency and good clinical practice - even though the data we use for research is anonymous, our research follows all applicable ethical principles from the Declaration of Helsinki, developed by the World Medical Association.

We aim to publish our research results in peer-reviewed journals, and/or use our research results to guide the development of our product. In order to do this, we may conduct research with partner organisations such as universities or other academic institutions; whenever we work with collaborators, we may share data with them, however as this data is anonymised, they will not receive any personally identifiable data about you, for example, your telephone number or email address. However, we may occasionally use your contact details to invite you to take part in further research projects. If you do not want your contact details to be used for this purpose, please email [email protected].

If you do not want your anonymised data to be used by OKKO Health in research, please email [email protected].

Consent is given (by confirming your agreement to this Privacy Notice) at the time of informed consent for inclusion in the study at the research/study site and within the app sign-up process.
